David MacKenzie brought me his beautifully written memoir and asked for a book that’s inviting to hold and read. He described a hybrid design that is clean, warm, and perhaps a bit eclectic. Together, we envisioned a book that weaves together David’s hand-drawn illustrations with his life story.

As the first African American woman principal in the Durham City School System, Betty Massenburg’s name appears on the front of a new elementary school.
Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro, North Carolina, provides a natural home for wild cats in captivity. The nonprofit wildlife sanctuary is committed to education as they reach out to the community and train volunteers to care for the animals and give tours.
